MEXT Scholarship Program Application (2024)

     Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers scholarships to international students who wish to study in Japan at Japanese universities/ colleges under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program.  The aim of this scholarship is to bridge friendship between Japan and Jordan.  We are looking for students who will contribute to the development of both countries and the wider world.
 
     If you are interested, please carefully read the application guidelines and submit your paper application to our Embassy during the Embassy’s working hours (without an appointment, only delivering the documents).  To know the Embassy’s working hours/ when to deliver the documents please check our website here : https://www.jordan.emb-japan.go.jp/itpr_en/About_us.html . 

Application Deadline: June 4th, 2023 / 4 PM Jordan Time.
Early submissions are highly encouraged.


 
General Guidelines:

• Please carefully read the Application Guidelines document (in the Application Documents section below).

• Please carefully read the Frequently Asked Question document in the attached files here.
 
• When submitting you application, please make sure to put the Applicant Information Sheet on the cover of your application file/ or first page in your application (attached in the Application Documents section below).
 
• Electronic applications are not acceptable. Only paper applications are accepted.  Applications should be delivered to the Embassy before the deadline.  Applications can be delivered by hand or by a post mail company.
 
• Please make sure not to use last year's application forms (Use 2024 applications).  
 
• The minimum academic requirements for the scholarship should be: 
  • The minimum average for the undergraduate scholarships: Tawjehi (or equivalent): 80% for engineering and any other scientific major, 85% for medical and dental study, and 70% for the other majors. 
  • The minimum average for postgraduate scholarship: 70% average on graduation on previous university education (undergraduate degree AND postgraduate degree if applying for a Ph.D. degree)
 
• Departure for Japan:
     The departure date will be decided by MEXT.  Please read the guidelines for each program for details. The academic year in Japan starts around April 1 and ends around March 31 the following year.  Enrollment may be either from the spring term (grantees arrive in Japan in April 2024, and start from the spring term) or from the autumn term (grantees arrive in Japan in September or October 2024, and start from the autumn term), depending on the selected  university’s academic calendar.  
 
• Only successful candidates who pass initial screening will be invited to the exams through an email invitation sent to them by June 15, 2023.  If you don’t receive an email by this date from the embassy, this means that unfortunately you did not pass the initial screening. 
 
• Exams will be held between the 2nd and the 3rd week of June 2023 in the Japanese Embassy in Jordan.  Only successful candidates who pass the exam stage will be contacted on or before June 22,2023.
 
• Interviews will be held between the 3rd and the 4th week of June 2023. Only successful candidates who pass the exam stage will be contacted on or before June 25, 2023.
 
• The schedule is subject to change depending on circumstances.
 
• After the interviews, applicants who pass this stage will be expected to contact the universities to try to gain admission  (Universities’ contact details will be provided to the preliminary candidates only). The final selection will be made by MEXT after the university placement has been confirmed.
 
• Please note that the exams must conducted in person at the Embassy of Japan in Jordan.

Application Documents:
SCHOLARSHIP FOR POSTGRADUATES/RESEARCH (MASTER/PHD)

1.Check List (Submit together with the application forms) 
  In the Chick List,  additional documents are listed; such as passport copy/certificate/degree certificate of   all universities attended/ copy of your Tawjihi certificate or equivalent). Please check all listed items carefully.
 
     The application documents should be organized, labelled clearly and numbered as in the Checklist.  Please note the number of copies/original document required for each item.

You can submit the Health Certificate after the initial screening and exams. Those who pass these stages must submit the Health Certificate by June 21st , 2023.


 
SCHOLARSHIP FOR UNDERGRADUATES (BACHELOR DEGREE) 
Note for undergraduates:
  • Applicants should be able to read and write Japanese language texts.  Applicant will take written academic examination in Japanese language if they pass the initial screening.
  • All classes will be given in the Japanese language (except where a grantee is directly placed at a university which requires no Japanese language ability).
