Working towards promoting and deepening mutual understanding between the two countries, 3-day dialogue between the Japanese and Jordanian youths took place in Jordan under the International Youth Development Exchange Program, which was established by the Cabinet Office of Japan in 1994 to commemorate the Imperial wedding of H. I. H. the Crown Prince of Japan, and since then Japan and Jordan have started exchanging a mission each year where the Jordanian delegation visits Japan in July and the Japanese visit Jordan in September. Fourteen members of the Japanese Youth Goodwill Mission are now traveling Jordan.
Organizers of the dialogue, the Embassy of Japan in Jordan and the Higher Council for Youth, arranged its last session on 8 September at Dead Sea Panoramic Complex in Ma’in, which was established in partnership of the Japanese and Jordanian governments. Overlooking great nature of Jordan Valley and Dead Sea, forty participants of the rising generation of the two countries exchanged views on issues of education, media, and environment. Both sides deepened understanding of challenges that the other side is confronted with and found they share many common concerns from a global perspective. Mr. Shoei Kurokawa, Chairperson of the session and Japanese university student, concluded that the youths must commit to the development of local and global community and take the initiative in finding solution to challenges. The youths also reassure the importance of continuing dialogue physically and with IT network.
Earlier than the discussion, Dr. Ahmad Smadi; director of Dead Sea Museum at Dead Sea Panoramic Complex arranged a guided tour in the museum and provided the young people with information on environment and nature reserve issues in Jordan.
