Japan and Jordan held an opening ceremony for Dead Sea Panoramic Complex and Dead Sea Parkway

Japan and Jordan held the opening ceremony for Dead Sea Panoramic Complex and Dead Sea Parkway on May 28, 2006. The ceremony was attended by Ambassador Kato, H.E. Mr. Husni Abu Gheida, Minister of Public Works and Housing, H.E. Mr. Muneer Nassar, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, H.H. Sharifa Nofa bint Nasser, H.E. Senator Akel Biltaji, H.E. Dr. Wuanas Harashe, Governor of Madaba, officials from the Government of Jordan and representatives of Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The Government of Japan has extended to the Government of Jordan a soft loan up to Seven billion One hundred and Ninety Nine million Japanese Yen (JYE 7,199,000,000), approximately Forty Eight million Jordan Dinars (JD 48,000,000) at the current exchange rate through JBIC to finance seven tourism development projects: namely Dead Sea Panoramic Complex, Dead Sea Parkway, Karak Tourism Development, Historic Old Salt Development, Raghadan Bus Terminal, National Museum, and Amman Downtown Tourist Zone. The assistance aims to renovate and modernize major tourist landmarks in Jordan as the tourism sector is significantly important in this country for its economic and social development.
Approximately Three million and Three hundred thousand JD (JD 3,300,000) were allocated to the Dead Sea Panoramic Complex sub project and approximately Ten million JD (JD 10,000,000) were allocated to the Dead Sea Parkway sub project.
The Dead Sea Panoramic Complex is the cultural complex which includes the museum, restaurant, conference hall, and panoramic terrace. As for the Dead Sea Parkway, it leads from the Dead Sea to the Dead Sea Panoramic Complex and to Ma’in Spa. In addition to this project, the Government of Japan has implemented Technical Cooperation through JICA in the tourism sector, focusing on the Museum activities including the management of the museum of the Dead Sea Panoramic Complex.
In his remarks at the ceremony, Mr. Kato, Ambassador of Japan expressed his hope that this project would help attract tourists to the Dead Sea, and that the Government of Japan will continue to work with the Government of Jordan in order to support Jordanian people who wish a secure society and global peace.
