On 22 February 2026, the first meeting of the Japan–Jordan Joint Committee was held at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply in Amman. The meeting was co-chaired by Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah and Ambassador of Japan to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan ASARI Hideki, and was attended by Secretary General of the Ministry of Investment Zaher Qatarneh and representatives of relevant government authorities from Japan and Jordan.

Participants from the Japanese side included representatives of the Embassy of Japan; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan; the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan; the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO); the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA); and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), as well as several leading Japanese companies in Jordan.

Minister Qudah welcomed the participants from both sides and affirmed the Kingdom’s strong interest in further enhancing economic cooperation with Japan.

Ambassador Asari thanked the Ministry for hosting the first meeting and noted that this meeting reflects both countries’ shared commitment to strengthening economic and business cooperation.

Secretary General Qatarneh presented an overview of Jordan’s business environment and highlighted ongoing reforms and investment incentives.

Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) also presented highlights of potential areas of cooperation with Jordanian companies on the reconstruction of Syria.

It was agreed that the Working Group of the Joint Committee will serve as a platform to discuss and follow up existing business issues constructively and enhance the business environment.

The two sides confirmed that the Joint Committee will convene annually and that the Working Group will meet periodically, every four months.

Both sides underscored their shared commitment to strengthening a predictable and transparent business environment and emphasized that the Joint Committee represents an important platform for constructive public-private dialogue between Japan and Jordan.

The decision to establish the Japan–Jordan Joint Committee followed the visit of His Majesty King Abdullah II to Japan in November 2025, during which His Majesty met with Prime Minister TAKAICHI Sanae in Tokyo, where both sides agreed to establish a public-private joint committee aimed at enhancing the business environment and strengthening economic relations between the two countries.
