Greetings from Ambassador Okuyama

My name is Okuyama Jiro, Ambassador of Japan to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. I submitted a copy of my credentials to the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on November 2, 2022 to start my mission.
This year we have seen a resumption of international exchanges of people as the the spread of COVID-19 has dwindled. However we have also seen an unstable economic situation and an increasing pressure on people’s life due to tremendous changes in the world including the Russian invasion of Ukraine. There is a degree of uncertainty and unpredictability. In these circumstances, it is of primary importance for this embassy to ensure safety of Japanese nationals who live in Jordan and its neighborhood and the embassy will maintain a close contact with them to that end.
Japan and Jordan have developed friendly relations on the basis of many years of close interchanges between the Imperial Family and the Hashemite Royal Family. The two countries regard these relations a “strategic partnership” in view of the importance of multi-faceted bilateral cooperation flourishing from the friendship they embrace. In other words, Japan and Jordan maintain continuous dialogue at all levels and utilize various avenues of economic cooperation to provide assistance which will lead to sustainable development, improving people's life and prosperity, and aim to expand mutual trade and investment ties. The two countries are also partners cooperating in the international arena, with due regard to each other’s regional situation.
The prosperity of Japan and Jordan cannot be achieved alone without peace and stability of the region as a whole in which they are situated. From this viewpoint Jordan’s expertise and its efforts at stability are extremely important. Japan would like to learn from such efforts and would like to make its own contribution to regional stability, however small.
