Greetings from Ambassador Yanagi

2017/12/28
My name is Hidenao Yanagi, newly appointed Japanese ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Fortunately, soon after having arrived in Jordan, on December 4, 2017, I had an honor to present a credential to His Majesty King Abdullah II, and on December 6, 2017, I held a reception on the occasion of Birthday of the Emperor of Japan, where I was pleased to get acquainted with many new faces. On December 11 and 12, 2017, a delegation of Japanese House of Councillors headed by its President Mr. Chuichi Date visited Jordan, paid a courtesy call on His Majesty, and had an opportunity to meet the president of the Senate H.E. Mr. Faisal Al Fayez and the president of House of Representatives H.E. Mr. Atef Tarawneh.
Japan and Jordan, with historical ties between the Japanese Imperial family and the Jordanian Royal Family, have always maintained good and close relations, and recently, His Majesty King Abdullah II and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe have established close relationship of mutual trust, and the bilateral relations have gained further strength. Since 2011, amid straining regional security environment exacerbated by the civil conflict in Syria, the role of Jordan as an indispensable partner for peace and stability in the region has become much more important, and Japan has fully supported Jordan’s efforts to stabilize the region.
Currently, more than 300 Japanese nationals live and play active roles in Jordan. We, as the Embassy of Japan, will continuously support them, paying particular attention for their safety.
While this is my first time to be posted in the Middle East, I will do my best for further strengthening the bilateral relations between Japan and Jordan based on my past experience in Germany and India. Your continued support and contribution would be very much appreciated.
