Farewell Message

2024/11/22
I have been reappointed back to Tokyo for retirement from the Japanese Foreign Service.  Toyoko and I are really grateful for your guidance, kindness and generosity you have extended to us since October 2022, thanks to which we have been able to enjoy every minute of our life in Jordan, land of hospitality, civilization and nature.

My successor will be Mr ASARI Hideki, now Ambassador of Japan to Uruguay.  After my departure by the end of December, I expect he will arrive soon in Amman to take up his post.  I would be grateful if you could offer your advice and help in executing his mission.

After the height of COVID-19 pandemic, the last two years have seen remarkable high-level bilateral exchanges including His Majesty the King Abdullah II’s visit to Japan and the visit by Their Imperial Highnesses Princess Takamado and Princess Tsuguko on the occasion of the wedding of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah. Their Royal Highnesses Prince El Hassan bin Talal and Princess Sarvath El Hassan have just concluded their trip to Japan.  These and numerous mutual Ministerial and other visits accompanied by business/investment/security interactions and the waves of academic/student/cultural exchanges gave solid substance to 2024, 70th anniversary of our diplomatic ties.

We recognize since October 2023 the situation in Gaza and beyond has undermined the economy of Jordan, the bastion of peace and stability and the beacon of hope in the region, which is also a generous host of close to 4 million refugees.  Japan commends the Jordan’s peace efforts and its unwavering endeavor to meet humanitarian needs in the conflict zones.  Japan will continue to support Jordan and its modernization in coordination with the donor community and also through UN and other organizations.

Sincerely,

OKUYAMA Jiro, Ambassador of Japan to Jordan
