Japanese Food and Drink Event and Conferment Ceremony of Foreign Minister’s Commendation

On 5th of June, Ambassador Okuyama Jiro hosted an event to promote a variety of Japanese foods and drinks at the Ambassador’s residence in Amman. People in the food industry, cultural groups, Japanese language learners, NGOs and media attended the event and enjoyed authentic Japanese cuisine using Japanese products such as grilled Hokkaido scallops with butter and soy sauce, curry and rice with Satsuma beef from Kagoshima Prefecture and Japanese rice from Ishikawa Prefecture and yakisoba noodles. In addition, Japanese beverages were also introduced.
Ambassador Okuyama gave an opening speech, followed by an award ceremony for Mr. Ali S. Malhas, President of the Jordan Judo and Kendo Federation, who received the 2023 Foreign Minister's Commendation. Mr. Malhas has been offering Iaido and Jodo classes since 1993. He was a key member involved in the establishment of the Jordanian Kendo Federation in 2000 and has contributed to raising the level of Japanese martial arts by focusing on certificating female coaches after becoming the president of the Jordanian Judo and Kendo Federation in 2019. Ambassador Okuyama expressed his appreciation for Mr. Malhas’s great contribution by presenting the commendation.
At the event, while Embassy staff explained about Japanese cuisine, Ambassador’s chef gave a cooking demonstration of scallops while students from the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts did the same for yakisoba noodles. A promotional video and pamphlets about the Narita Wholesale Market in Chiba Prefecture were also shown and distributed.
