Mr. Shigenobu Kato, Ambassador of Japan in Jordan, held an award presentation ceremony at his official residence in Amman to honor the commendation of Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan to Jordan Chapter of the Ikebana International on 8 November 2007.
Since the official inauguration of the Chapter in 1988, its members have actively organized workshops and demonstrations of Ikebana, extremely dramatic and artistic form of flower arrangement originated in Japan, which made it very popular in Jordan. The Foreign Minister's Commendation, therefore, was presented to the chapter of the well-known international organization in recognition of its outstanding contributions to the advancement of the amicable relationship and mutual understanding between Japan and Jordan through untiring efforts to promote Ikebana.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Kato began by making a congratulatory remark and commended Jordan Chapter of Ikebana International for its members’ commitment to development of art, culture, and understanding of foreign culture in Jordan. The certificate of commendation was, then, handed by him to Mrs. Hind Shalan, President of the Jordan Chapter, in attendance of Mr. Ghassan Tanash, Director of Cultural Organizations and Festivals of Ministry of Culture on behalf H.E. Minister of Culture, as well as around 100 members of the Chapter.
Subsequently, Mrs. Hind Shalan, President of the Jordan Chapter, made a few remarks and expressed her great appreciation to the Japanese government for honoring her club and to the Ambassador for organizing the award ceremony.
Jordan Chapter of the Ikebana International recently inaugurated its homepage at www.ikebanajordan.org. It is planning to dispatch a delegation to India this month to attend the Asian regional conference of Ikebana.
