Your
Excellency
,
Eng.
Nidal Al-Hadid, Lord Mayor of Greater
Amman
Municipality
,
Distinguished
guests,
Ladies and gentleman,
It gives me a great pleasure and honour to be present here today to
welcome you all to the Donation Ceremony of Japanese Cherry Trees at
this beautiful Al-Hussein park on behalf of the Japanese residents who
contributed to this project.
This year is a
very significant year between
Jordan
and
Japan
, because this year marks the 50th anniversary of
the establishment of the diplomatic relations between two countries.
In order to celebrate this happy occasion, the Japanese
residents in
Jordan
have initiated an idea of donating Japanese cherry
trees to the Jordanian people with the hope for ever lasting
friendship with the People of Jordan.
A lot of Japanese residents as well as Japanese private
companies working in
Jordan
have offered generous support for bringing the
cherry blossom trees from
Japan
.
The year 2004 also marks the 30th
Anniversary of the establishment of both Jordanian and Japanese
embassies in
Tokyo
and
Amman
. During
last 30 years
Japan
has been deeply involved in nation building of
modern state of
Jordan
and tightened up strong bonds with this beautiful
country.
Cherry-blossom is a national flower of
Japan
. In
the eyes of Japanese people it represents Japanese beauty, Japanese
spirit and as well as integrity of the Japanese people.
Accordingly, the Japanese community in
Jordan
considers cherry blossom suitable for the integral
partnership between
Jordan
and
Japan
.
Today’s event is
the very first event which will be followed by a series of
commemorative events celebrating the 50th Anniversary arranged by the
Embassy of Japan.
I would like to conclude my remarks by expressing my hearty gratitude
to H.E. Eng. Nidal Al-Hadid, and his professional staffs of the
Greater Amman Municipality and my fellow Japanese citizens, who made
the project came true and by wishing for ever lasting friendly
relations between the people of
Jordan
and the people of
Japan
.
Thank
you very much.
