Thinking highly of importance of mutual understanding between the younger generation of Japan and Jordan, the Embassy of Japan in Jordan arranged exchange programs, which are to provide young people with opportunities to acquaint themselves with foreign culture and renew the value of their own culture.

A delegation of ten Jordanians is now traveling Japan under the International Youth Development Exchange Program which the Cabinet Office of Japan started in 1994 to commemorate the Imperial wedding of H. I. H. the Crown Prince of Japan. The group is to interact with youth delegations from other ten countries, introduce each own culture, discuss various common issues during the three week program. They will come back to Jordan at the beginning of August. It is worth mentioning that Jordan is the only country that has participated in the Program every year since 1994.

Reciprocally, Jordan will receive two Japanese delegations this summer; twelve Japanese youths under the International Youth Development Exchange Program in September and ten university students under the Japan-Middle East Student Conference in August. This conference, consisting of a group of students from different universities, was established in 1993 to promote intercultural communication between Japan and the Middle East.

In addition to arranging exchange of young people between the two countries, the Embassy of Japan in cooperation with the Ministry of Education of Jordan, invited three Jordanian teachers to visit Japan in June in order to facilitate the further understanding of Jordanian schoolchildren about Japan and its people. The teachers of civics and geography from schools in Amman, Zarqa, and Salt attended lectures on history, politics, economy, and education of Japan during the program, and visited schools in the provinces. The participants and the Embassy are planning to organize a workshop for introduction of tradition of Japan in autumn.

Mr. Shigenobu Kato, Ambassador of Japan to Jordan, received the two delegations at the Embassy and praised their participation in the programs saying he hoped the delegates would bridge the two countries sharing their experience and findings in Japan with family and friends after their return to Jordan, and would like to listening to their suggestions for the further improvement of the existing friendly relations between Japan and Jordan.

Dr. Qusaii who was ex-participant of the program and also obtained PhD from a Japanese university, and other ex-participants gave youthful advise to the delegation
