A new
academic and friendship organization dedicated to
Japan
was established in
Jordan
on March 6. Those
who studied in Japanese universities gathered at the Japanese
Ambassador’s residence and the Ambassador witnessed the
establishment of Jordan – Japan Academic Society (JJAS).
Dr. Mohammed Matouq is inaugurated as the first president of
the new born JJAS.
JJAS is aiming at promoting a good relation between
Jordan
and
Japan
, to provide facilities for social and cultural
activities, to promote scientific technologies education and cultural
exchange between the two countries, and to provide the opportunities
for members to meet their counter parts in other organizations and
institutions in both countries. The
JJAS members are in education field in
Jordan
as well as in private business.
The Embassy of Japan in Jordan has granted more than 70 scholarships
for postgraduate
study to Jordanian youth since the 1970s and the Embassy is seeing
five Jordanian students off to Japan this year.
Several private students also studied in Japanese universities
in addition to the Embassy scholarship.
Fields of their study are various such as medical science,
engineering, economics, agriculture, IT, environment and so on.
The students who completed study in
Japan
and returned to
Jordan
actively contribute in the development of the
country and also in the enhancement of the relationship between two
countries.
Mr. Koichi OBATA, the Japanese Ambassador
said at the reception at his residence; we, the Embassy, highly
appreciate the efforts and assistance each of you has individually
done for the relations between
Japan
and
Jordan
. I
know we owe much to those who dedicated time and energy in both
Japan
and
Jordan
to fostering the mutual understanding between the
two peoples. I hope that
the establishment of the JJAS is to integrate your idea, knowledge and
expertise for the further strengthening and consolidating the friendly
ties. The Embassy is
always happy to assist and cooperate with JJAS in order to build
greater bonds of partnership.
The
Executive Committee of JJAS is to discuss their activities in the year
2004 that marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the
diplomatic relations between
Japan
and
Jordan,
in order to contribute to the commemorative events.
