Working
towards promoting and deepening mutual understanding between the
Japanese and Jordanian youth, the Embassy of Japan announces its
annual youth exchange programs which offer young people the
opportunity to be sent overseas and experience many aspects of a
foreign country such as politics, economy, culture and society.
Throughout this summer, Jordanian
youth will have the opportunity to visit
Japan
as part of five programs, namely, the
International Youth Development Exchange Program, the Global Youth
Exchange Program, a program for promising trade union leaders, the
Japan-Jordan Women’s Exchange Program and a program designed for an
outstanding Japanese Language student.
The International Youth Development Exchange Program, organized by the
Cabinet Office of Japan, started in 1994 to commemorate the Imperial
wedding of H. I. H. the Crown Prince of Japan. Ten Jordanian youth
selected by both the Higher Council for Youth and the Embassy of Japan
will, along with youth from other ten countries, visit
Japan
for three weeks on 6 July to experience first-hand
what life is like in
Japan
.
The groups will interact with each other and introduce each own
culture, sports and homestays as well as participating in various
discussions in the fields of environment, information, cooperate
social contributions, education, volunteer and traditional culture.
Jordan
is the only country that has participated in the
Program every year since 1994.
Reciprocally,
Jordan
will receive two Japanese delegations this summer;
12 Japanese youths under the International Youth Development Exchange
Program for 25 days on 5 September and 14 youths under the
Japan-Middle East Student Conference for a week on 10 August. This
conference, consisting of a group of students from different
universities who paid
Jordan
a short visit last year, was established in 1993
to promote intercultural communication between
Japan
and the
Middle East
.
Jordan
will also take part in the Global Youth Exchange
(GYE) Program which was initiated in 1994 by the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs of Japan with the aim of inviting young people of the world to
Japan
for two weeks and providing them with the
opportunity exchange views on issues from a global perspective by providing
a forum for the exchange of opinions aiming at overcoming the barriers
of language and culture.
Under this year’s theme “Towards a New Paradigm to Achieve
Real World Justice: Future of Culture in the 21st Century”, 33 youth
representing 29 countries and two organizations, where only one person
from each country is invited, will meet on July 10 and indulge in
various discussions, public symposium, and local visits.
An exchange program organized particularly for women has been
introduced as well when the Japan-Jordan Women's Exchange Program was
initiated by an exchange meeting in 1993 between Japanese women's
groups and Her Royal Highness Princess Basma Bint Talal of Jordan
during her visit to Japan, and subsequently implemented by the
Government of Japan in 1996.
Japan
and
Jordan
exchange a mission each year where the Japanese
women delegation would visit
Jordan
in autumn and the Jordanians visit
Japan
in winter and engage in exchanges of views on
women's issues.
The Japan Foundation also arranges a visit for two weeks in September
for an outstanding Jordanian student who is studying Japanese
language. Moreover, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)
and the Embassy of Japan in
Jordan
arrange other
non-regular exchange programs in addition to offering Jordanians
yearly Japanese Government studying scholarships.
