Japan extends US$
75,018 to Jordan River Foundation (JRF) for the Project for Empowering the Local
Committee for the Mentally and Physically Disabled in Ghor Al Mazraa

The Government of Japan has decided to extend a Seventy Five thousand and Eighteen US Dollars (US$75,018) approximately Fifty Three thousand One hundred Thirteen Jordan Dinar (JD53, 113) grant aid to the Jordan River Foundation and an agreement to that effect was signed on Tuesday, February 16, 2010, by His Excellency Mr. Tetsuo Shioguchi, Ambassador of Japan to Jordan and Ms. Valentina Qussisiya, Director-General of the Foundation.
The grant will be used for the purchase of physical therapy equipment and a bus to be used by the local committee (Rehabilitation Center) in Ghor Al Mazraa. The equipment is expected to improve services provided to the people with disabilities in the area.
This grant aid is the third one by the Embassy to the Foundation.
The first was for supporting women’s activities in Bani Hamida through purchasingcarding machines in 2004 at US$ 50,645, approximately JD35, 857.
The second was for the purchase of irrigation equipment such as electric water-pumps and pipelines, in Greigreh and Fenan in Aqaba in 2008 at US$40,783, approximately JD28, 875.
These grants are provided within the framework of Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP). Japan has donated more than US$ 6.7million (JD4.7 million) for 118 projects to non-governmental organizations, schools, hospitals, and local governments in Jordan for the last 16 years.
Including those projects under the GGP, the total amount of Japanese economic cooperation which has been extended to the people in Jordan since 1974 is more than 3 Billion United States dollars (US$ 3,000,000,000), more than Two Billion Jordan Dinar (2,000,000,000 JD).
As for the area of supporting the
people disabilities, the Japanese Government has supported several projects
under the GGP in order to enhance the accessibility to the special education and
rehabilitation service.
The recent projects supported by the Japanese Government are following;
1) The project for supporting children with hearing difficulties in 2004 (Entity: South Society for Special Education/Grant: 100,850USD)
2) The project for the supply of equipment for the center for the mentally handicapped in 2005 (Entity: The National Association for the Mentally Handicapped/Grant: 15,642USD)
3) The project for the Improvement of the Center for Special Education in Al-Khalidiya in 2006 (Entity: Al-Khalidiya Society for Special Education/Grant: 50,394USD)
4) The Project for the Improvement of Educational Equipment for the Center for Special Education in 2006(Entity: The Princess Alia Bint Al-Hussein Center for Special Education/Grant: 14,923USD)
5) The Project for the Enhancement of Service Quality of Al Raja Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children in 2008 (Entity: Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD)/Grant: 29,237USD)
6) The Project for Improvement of Educational Facility of the Friendship Association of the Blind in 2008 (Entity: The Friendship Association of the Blind/Grant: 59,085USD)
The Foundation chaired by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah was established in 1995 as a non-profit and Non-governmental organization in Jordan. The Foundation has been empowering individuals and communities through a lot of community empowerment programs.
