Japan provides JD10, 500,000
grant aid to improve security equipment at Queen Alia International Airport
The
Government of Japan has decided to extend to the Government of Jordan a grant of
up to One billion Four hundred and Thirty Seven million Japanese Yen (¥1,437,000,000),
approximately Ten Million Five Hundred Thousand Jordanian Dinars (10,500,000 JD)
at the current exchange rate for
Improvement of Airport Security Equipment at Queen Alia International Airport as
one of the outcomes of His Majesty’s visit to Japan in April.
Agreement to this effect was signed between H.E. Mrs. Suhair Al-Ali, Minister of
Planning and International Cooperation and H.E. Mr. Tetsuo Shioguchi, Ambassador
of Japan in Amman on August 10.
The project aims at improving the airport security by installing some security equipment such as large-scale X-ray inspection systems, explosive detection tomography systems and handheld metal detectors for cargo and passengers at Queen Alia International Airport, which users are expected to increase dramatically when the construction for expanding its facilities is completed in the near future and consequently contributes to supporting Jordan’s efforts for coping with dangerous threat.
At the signing ceremony, Ambassador Shioguchi stated that security was one of the prerequisites for sustainable development and that this Grant would contribute not only to enhancing the safety and security of Jordanian people but also to the stability in this region.
