Mr. Shigenobu Kato, Ambassador of Japan to Jordan, received Mrs. Nahla Qubain, Executive member of the General Federation of Jordanian Women (GFJW) and Mrs. Anas Saket, President of the GFJW, at the Embassy on 11 February and praised their dedication to the exchange program between Japan and Jordan saying he hoped it would further strengthen the existing ties between the two countries.

Representing Jordanian women, Mrs. Nahla Qubain participated in two symposia under the theme of “Women and Social Education”, which took place in January in Japan. The events were held on 27 January in Tokyo and on 31 January in Osaka, Japan's second largest city, respectively. She presented about social education for women in Jordan, which provided the Japanese audience with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Jordanian society. Thinking highly of the continuous women exchange between Japan and the Middle East, Mr. Osamu Uno, Senior Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, commended the exchange for its contribution to empowerment of women at the meeting with the participants.

The visit of Mrs. Qubain to Japan was arranged by the Embassy of Japan in Jordan within the framework of the women’s exchange program, which has been continued since it was initiated by Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Talal when the Princess visited Japan in October 1993 in order to broaden the existing friendly relationship between Japan and Jordan. Her Royal Highness’s farseeing vision bore fruit in 1996 where the first delegation of female leaders of the Jordanian society visited Japan and had a discussion with Japanese NGOs. The recent program in Japan marked the 21st exchange following the successful visit of the Japanese delegation to Jordan in October 2007.

Ambassador Kato welcomed suggestions of Mrs. Anas Saket and Mrs. Nahla Qubain for the further improvement of the program which has continued over a decade.
