Your
Excellency, Professor Abdullah Musa, President of the
University
of
Jordan
,
Distinguished guests,
Ladies and gentlemen,
It gives me a great pleasure to be present here today to co-host the
Annual Japanese Speech Contest with the Language Center of the
University
of
Jordan
. The
contest that started in 1997 is now in the seventh year and I would
like to express my heartfelt appreciation for the earnest and steady
endeavors the
University
of
Jordan
has been contributing to the Japanese language
study in and outside the campus during seven years.
I would also like to express my sincere thanks to the Higher Council
for Youth for their generous approval for a number of outstanding
students from this contest to participate in the Jordanian youth
delegation to
Japan
. It
has been a great opportunity for both Japanese and Jordanian youth to
deepen their mutual understanding and respect.
In celebrating its seventh anniversary, the organizer of the contest
took “Haiku”, Japanese poetry, as a theme.
As I am always impressed by the affection of the Jordan people
to poetry, I am eagerly
looking forward to listening how the Arab youth who has a long lasting
tradition of Qasida, very long lyric, appreciate very short poem of
Japan. Your style of very
long poetry has been since Jahiliyah and
ours since the seventh century too.
I am very much delighted to witness the participants are ready
for the contest with confidence.
I would like to conclude my remarks by expressing my sincere thanks
once again to His Excellency Professor Abdullah Musa, Dr. Ahmad
Majdoubeh, and all the people concerned at the University of Jordan
for their continuous efforts to further enhance our partnership and
also to His Excellency Dr. Sari Hamdan of the Higher Council for Youth
for bringing this contest to a success. I
wish all contestants the very best of luck in the contest.
Thank you very much.
