The Japan Middle East Student Conference concluded its annual dialogue with Jordanian youths at Al-Hussein Cultural Center

Twelve Japanese students of the Japan Middle East Student Conference concluded, on 27 August, a four day visit to Jordan as the final leg of its regional tour to the Middle East including Abu Dhabi, Oman, Yemen, Syria and Israel.
During the stay, they had a dialogue with Jordanian youths about Life ethics, Education and Social welfare in two day meeting. Japan and Jordan have different backgrounds in the issues, yet both sides found similar challenges and common concerns in the other side, in addition to deepening of the mutual understanding through white-hot discussions though in a friendly atmosphere. Considering themselves as torchbearers of peace and stability in future, the participants of both Japanese and Jordanian side reassured their commitment to having awareness of the challenges, critical thinking on them, and efforts to find a solution to those. The sessions took place in Al-Hussein Cultural Center in cooperation with the Greater Amman Municipality and the Embassy of Japan.
Previous to the dialogue in Amman, the Conference arranged a study tour with the Jordanian youths to Azraq, in which both sides witnessed the one-time great oasis and Jordan’s endeavor to conserve nature. The trip also acquainted the Japanese students with Jordan’s struggle on the water issue.
The Japan Middle East Student Conference in cooperation with the Japan Foundation started its invitation program to visit Japan last year, with which two Jordanian youths participated a dialogue took place in Japan last September. At the last session on Monday, Mr. Taruto MATSUMOTO, Invitation Program Coordinator of the Conference, announced that it will invite the Jordanian participants in the dialogue this year to application to the program which will take place in Tokyo in late October.
Mr. Susumu Yamashita, Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of Japan in Jordan, said “the Embassy of Japan regards and appreciates highly non governmental exchange, which is to multi-layer the relations between Japan and Jordan in harmony with the Government to Government cooperation.” He praised the GAM for providing an opportunity of exchange views and ideas for the coming generation of the two countries. Mr. Yamashita also expressed his gratitude to the Jordanian youths for their dedication to the success of the dialogue.
The Conference was established by students of Japanese several universities in 1993 in order to deepen their knowledge on issues in the region and bolster youth exchange between Japan and the Middle East. It is an independent youth organization and arranges the students’ visit to the Middle East every summer. It started its visit to Jordan since 2003 and this year marks the fourth visit of the conference to Jordan.
