The Embassy's second workshop on Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects held successfully in Irbid


Extending its awareness campaign launched on the 8th of March on Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) program, the Japanese Embassy held it's second workshop in Irbid in March 19th, focusing on creating awareness for interested institutions in this program and its eligible applicants and benefits. His Excellency Mr. Walid Abidah, Acting Governor of Irbid and group of media representatives as well as committees from the northern area of Jordan attended the workshop to acknowledge the program and the Embassy's aim along with its futuristic vision.

The Embassy’s Charge d’Affaires, Mr. Matahiro Yamaguchi clarified the embassy's ambitions and its aspects of further cooperation between Jordan and its people.

He said “through this program the Japanese government offers help to small projects which are suggested by NGOs, medical or educational institutions and local municipalities, by which Japan has opened direct channels with organizations working in the field, stressing that these organizations are closer to the actual needs of local communities.”

His Excellency, Mr. Walid Abidah, Acting Governor of Irbid, assured his happiness for having this seminar in Irbid (Pride of the North) and giving the opportunity to the north sector associations to acknowledge the opportunity and the program aspects as well.

“These aids and grants, is considered a supportive and empowering program to local organizations indeed of help and developing its businesses which positively reflects on members and families of those related to the supported projects” added Abida.

The GGP program is considered backup and support of benefited associations over the past years to offer better care for the elderly, further empower women and improve primary education and health care services. In order to acknowledge one association that earned the support from this program, participants went on a site tour visiting the clinic of the General Trade Union of Workers in Textiles, Garment & Clothing Industries.

MRS. Muna Nijmeh from the embassy's Economic Section said that the focus is on local organizations because they are very well aware of the needs of the residents in the targeted areas, adding that the size of grants awarded under this program totaled $5.6 million.

The Third seminar will be launched in the southern district of Maan at the premises of the Al Hussien Bin Talal University on 29 March. A site visit will be arranged to South Society for Special Education in Maan, one of the Jordanian organizations which gained a grant from the Japanese Governmental.
