’s belief that good education for children paves
the road for their better future especially at an early age, the
Embassy of Japan has decided to extend a grant worth of US$ 105,930 to
the Young Women Christian Association to reconstruct the kindergarten
in Baqa’a camps.
The Grant Contract was signed at the Embassy
of Japan on
March 2, 2006
between Mr. Matahiro Yamaguchi, Charge
d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan and H.E. Miss Laurice Hlass,
President of the YWCA in the presence of Eng. Wajeeh Azayzeh, Director
General of Department of Palestinian Affairs.
The Grant will enable the YWCA to
reconstruct the kindergarten which was established in 1968 and had to
be closed in 2003 since the building was susceptible to collapse.
During that period, the kindergarten offered good educational
opportunities for children in the camp and even encouraged women to
obtain jobs.
Since its establishment, the YWCA of Jordan serves both Christian and
Muslim women and helps them develop their skills and capabilities in
order to reinforce their role in the society economically, socially
and culturally. YWCA has several income generating projects in
Baqa’a camp which have contributed greatly to human resources
development in
Jordan
and their quality of life.
The extended Grant is within the framework
of Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass Roots Human Security Projects (GGP)
through which the Government of Japan works hand in hand with local
Jordanian NGOs, schools, hospitals and local governments to further
develop local communities in
Jordan
. In order to acquaint
would-be recipients on GGP details, the Embassy will organize three
workshops in March.
