Japan
and Jordan held a handing over ceremony of the equipment for the
project for the improvement of solid waste management in the Greater
Amman (Phase II) on October 29, 2005. The ceremony was attended
by H.E. Eng. Nidal Al-Hadid, Lord Mayor of Greater Amman Municipality
and Mr. Koichi Obata, Ambassador of Japan.
On
December
7, 2004
,
Jordan’s Acting Minister of Planning and International Cooperation,
signed an agreement by which
Japan
extended a grant aid of 743 million Japanese Yen (approximately 7.2 million US dollars) to the
Government of Jordan to the project for the Improvement of Solid Waste
Management in the Greater Amman (Phase II).
With this grant, transfer station and landfill site equipment and waste
collection vehicles were procured and relevant technical
assistance was
provided. This
will improve solid waste management at the Greater Amman Municipality
and enable it to conduct urban solid waste collection service and
adequate disposal efficiently.
Japan
extended 504 million
Japanese Yen in 1993 to improve the solid waste management in the
Greater Amman by providing machinery and equipment. And this is the
second phase of the project.
In remarks at the ceremony, Mr. Obata said “I am hopeful that this
equipment will further contribute to the conservation of environment
through improving the solid waste managing, in addition to enhancing
bilateral ties between the two friendly countries.”
Mr. Obata added, “It is my sincere wish that cooperation and
friendly relations between
Japan
and
Jordan
will be further
strengthened in the future. ”
