Japan grants $97,000 to Al Khalidiya Charity Association to the Project for the Second Floor Addition to Moab Center for Special Education
The Government of Japan has decided to extend a Ninety Six thousand Seven Hundred Fifty One US Dollars (US$96,751) grant aid to Al-Khaldeih Charitable Society and an agreement to that effect was signed on Saturday, February 20, 2010 by Mr. Tetsuo Shioguchi, the Ambassador of Japan to Jordan and Mr. Khaled Hamoud Al-Tarawneh, the President of Al-Khaldieh Charitable Society.
Al-Khaldia Society has implemented many projects such as holding job training courses for underprivileged people, managing a kindergarten for orphans as well as the special education center. The Special Education Center, to which today’s grant is to be extended was established in 2004. Since then, this Center has been the hub for special education in Mazar district, Karak. The grant is to be used for additionally constructing a second floor of the center to receive more students with special needs.
Today’s grant aid is the second one by the Embassy to the Society. For the first grant aid a sum of US$ 15,511 was extended for the Improvement of Rain Water Reservoirs in 2006.
These grants are provided within the framework of Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP). Japan has donated more than 6.7 million (JD4.7 million) for 120 projects to non-governmental organizations, schools, hospitals and local governments in Jordan for the last 16 years.
The total amount of the Japanese economic cooperation which has been extended to the people in Jordan for the last decades is more than 3 Billion United States dollars (US$ 3,000,000,000), more than Two Billion Jordanian Dinars (2,000,000,000 JD).
As for the area of supporting the people disabled, the Japanese Government has supported several projects in order to enhance the accessibility to the special education and rehabilitation service. The recent projects supported by the Japanese Government are following:
1) The project for supporting children with hearing difficulties in 2004 (Entity: South Society for Special Education/Grant: 100,850USD)
2) The project for the supply of equipment for the center for the mentally handicapped in 2005 (Entity: The National Association for the Mentally Handicapped/Grant: 15,642USD)
3) The project for the Improvement of the Center for Special Education in Al-Khalidiya in 2006 (Entity: Al-Khalidiya Society for Special Education/Grant: 50,394USD)
4) The Project for the Improvement of Educational Equipment for the Center for Special Education in 2006(Entity: The Princess Alia Bint Al-Hussein Center for Special Education/Grant: 14,923USD)
5) The Project for the Enhancement of Service Quality of Al Raja Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children in 2008 (Entity: Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD)/Grant: 29,237USD)
6) The Project for Improvement of Educational Facility of the Friendship Association of the Blind in 2008 (Entity: The Friendship Association of the Blind/Grant: 59,085)
