Remarks in December 2008
Mr. Tetsuo Shioguchi, Ambassador of Japan, delivered a speech at the signing ceremony of the Grant Contract with Circassian Charity Association Women's Branch on 29 January 2009
Her Excellency Ms. Jeanette Mufti, the President of the Circassian Charity Association Woman’s Branch,
Members of the Circassian Charity Association Woman’s Branch,
Distinguished guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is a great pleasure to be here today to sign, on behalf of the Government of Japan, the grant contract of the Project for Vocational Training for Women.
Under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, the sum of approximately Sixty Nine thousand Four hundred Fifty Seven US Dollars (US$69,457), equivalent to Forty Nine thousand One hundred Seventy Five Jordan Dinar (49,175JD) will be granted to the Circassian Charity Association Woman’s Branch .
I have learned that the Circassian Charity Association Woman’s Branch, patronized by Her Royal Highness Princess Alia Bint Al-Hussein, has been supporting women for their empowerment since it was established in 1972.
Our assistance will be used to purchase kitchen equipment such as refrigerators, sinks, ovens and washing-machines etc, so that they can receive vocational training all the more.
Japan promotes diplomacy with an emphasis on the perspective of human security. Human security is to endeavor to empower people and societies through NGOs and civil society so that people can lead self sufficient lives. This is a reason why we decided to provide assistance to the Association.
The total amount of Japanese economic cooperation which has been extended to the people in Jordan for the last decades is more than 3 Billion United States dollars (US$ 3,000,000,000), more than Two Billion Jordan Dinar (2,000,000,000 JD). We would like to make further efforts to help the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan achieve its aspirations in improving the living standards of its people in light of the existing significant partnership between our two countries.
In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to express my deep appreciation to the staff of the Circassian Charity Association Woman’s Branch for their dedication to serve people who are in need of external support as well as to mitigate the harsh living condition of people in Jordan.
Thank you.
