Remarks in March 2008
Mr. Shigenobu Kato, Ambassador of Japan, delivered a speech at Piano Recital by Ms. Misako Osada, Japanese young soloist, At Al Hussein Cultural Center on 18 March 2008
Your Excellency Eng. Omar Maani, Lord Mayor of Amman,
Mr. Kifah Fakhoury, Director of the National Music Conservatory,
Mr. Sytze Smit, Director of Music in Me,
Excellencies,
Distinguished guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is indeed a great honour and pleasure for me to welcome you all here tonight at the Piano Recital by Ms. Misako Osada, 19 years old young talented Japanese artist.
First, I wish to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to H.E. Lord Mayor of Amman for his support not only to this particular Japanese event but also many cultural activities which have enabled Amman citizens of both Jordanians and foreigners to appreciate the richness of cultural diversity.
Ms. Osada was born in Japan in 1989, and began to study the piano when she was six and violin a year later. She made her first appearance as a soloist with an orchestra when she was eight, after winning a prize in a competition in Japan. In April 2000 she joined a school in the U.K. and began to take part in concerts quite often. Though she is young, she has infatuated a number of audiences in performances of both as soloist and accompanist in Japan, U.K., Turkey, and Tunisia, at prestigious music halls such as the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Wigmore Hall, and the likes. Tonight is our turn to be fascinated with her play, at Al Hussein Cultural Center in Amman.
Many Japanese and Jordanians young talented artists study “western” classical music, which was originated in Europe. In addition to her highly skilled performance which is naturally expected, Ms. Osada’s play will definitely reassure us that music whatever it comes from has no boundary and a gifted artist can deliver a message beyond the border.
Last but not least, I would like to express my deep appreciation to my co-organizers, the National Music Conservatory and Music in Me for realizing this wonderful evening.
Thank you.
