Mr. Sakuraba Yuko, Japanese nature photographer from Hokkaido, selected 93 photographs for the exhibition from his and his disciples’ over 10,000 works. He has been in this field of art for more than 40 years and having been thought highly of his professional skills and artistic expression, he was invited by Jordan Tourism authorities to visit Jordan in 2001 to take pictures of its nature and stunning landscape. Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan, is known for its beauty of nature, scenery, and diversity of fauna and flora. Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido was registered as UNESCO World Heritage in 2005. Considering its nature would have considerable appeal and its cool climate would represent Mother Nature which has been threatened with global warming, Hokkaido was chosen for a venue for the summit meeting of the G8 leaders which will take place in July 2008. Statistics say Japan is the most efficient energy conserving country of the world and its Prime Minister announced in last January Japan would share its technology and expertise with other countries so as to tackle with Climate Change issue.
Ikebana International Jordan Chapter has made invaluable contributions to increase the mutual understanding between Japan and Jordan through promoting Ikebana over the last two decades. Ikebana International Jordan Chapter recently received two commendations, from the Foreign Minister of Japan in November and Ikebana International head quarters in Japan February respectively.
