1. Please fill out the designated
application form and submit it to the Cultural section of the Embassy
not later than Wednesday, 31 January 2007. |
2. Each session shall accept only twelve complete applications in order of receipt. |
3. Participants in the Speech session must have
study experience in Japanese longer than eight months. |

4. A contestant can participate in one of the sessions only. |
Remarks
Remarks |
1. Those who stayed in Japan longer than a year may participate in the event as a special entry, but are not entitled to win a prize other than arranged for the special entry. |
2. Those who won the first place of the Japanese Speech Contest held in Jordan in the past are not entitled to win a prize in the same category of the contest |
3. Those who have a Japanese parent may not participate. |

* The program to visit Japan: The jury will recommend to the Embassy of Japan two outstanding Jordanian participants as candidates for the Youth Exchange Program to visit Japan. The candidates must meet the program criteria and the Embassy holds authority to choose the participants.

Details of the Speech Session
The Speech Session
1. A participant must choose one of the following subjects: |

a. The most ……. in Jordan |
|
b. I want ……… or I want to do ………. |

c. If …… |
2. The speech must be not longer than six minutes. |
3. The contestant must submit a translation of the speech either in English or Arabic saved in MS Word
to the Embassy not later than Wednesday, 14 February 2007 |
Marking guidelines for the Speech Session
1. Pronunciation and smoothness |
2. Correct use of words and organization of passages |
3. Original content according to the given subject |
4. Coherence |
5. Manner of presentation |
6. Memorization pf the speech is a plus |
7. A speech longer than ten minutes will result in deducting marks |
Details of the Haiku Session
The Haiku Session
1. Each participant must recite his/her favorite Haiku (one poem only) in Japanese, and present an impression on the poem in English and Arabic. The contestant has
five minutes for the presentation. |
2. The participant must not choose the Haiku poems that were introduced
at the last contest in March 2006.

3. The chosen haiku must be written in Japanese in the application form. |
Marking guidelines for the Haiku Session
1. Memorization of the Haiku poem, pronunciation and smoothness of the recitation |
2. Understanding of the poem and persuasiveness of the taking points |

4. A presentation longer than five minutes will result in deducting marks |
