The JMESC's visit to Jordan in 2006
Japan Middle East Student Conference held in Amman Nine Japanese students of the Japan Middle East Student Conference concluded, on 23 August, a 5 day visit to Jordan as a leg of its regional tour to Abu Dhabi, Oman, Yemen, Syria and Israel.During the stay, they had discussions with Jordanian youths about student life, the role of media, Japan’s policy on the Middle East and religions. Some of the discussions became white-hot though in a friendly atmosphere and the participants of both Jordanian and Japanese side deepened the mutual understanding. The sessions took place in Al-Hussein Cultural Center in cooperation with the Greater Amman Municipality and the Embassy of Japan.
In addition to the sessions in Amman, the conference arranged a study tour with the Jordanian youths to Dana Nature Reserve in harmony with the Royal Society for Conservation of Nature. The students also held talks with the Jordanian media and Japanese officials in Jordan.
At the last session on Tuesday, Ms. Yuma Fujii, President of the Japan Middle East Student Conference, announced that two Jordanians will visit Japan in order to participate in the Jordanian day in the late September that the Conference is arranging in Tokyo. She said “I have decided to implement the invitation program to further boost friendship between Japan and Jordan. This year I will choose the two participants among who joined our program in Jordan”.
Mr. Susumu Yamashita, Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of Japan in Jordan said “In the quest of stability and prosperity in the Middle East, not only have the Government of Japan offered its full support by all means but also its people. I am confident their contribution to the exchange between Japan and Jordan is a sign of Japan’s multi layered efforts to further deepen the mutual understanding between the two friendly countries”.
The Conference was established by students of Japanese several universities in 1993 in order to deepen their knowledge on issues in the region and bolster youth exchange between Japan and the Middle East. It is an independent youth organization and arranges the students’ visit to the Middle East every summer. It started visiting Jordan since 2003 and this year marks the third visit of the conference to Jordan.
