Mr. Date, chairman of Japanese House of Councillors visits the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

On December 11, a six-member delegation of Japanese House of Councillors (Upper House) headed by its President Mr. Chuichi Date visited Jordan and paid a courtesy call on His Majesty King Abdullah II.
During a meeting attended by the president of the Senate H.E. Mr. Faisal Al Fayez and the president of House of Representatives H.E. Mr. Atef Tarawneh, the two sides stressed the deeply-rooted ties and partnership between Jordan and Japan.
His Majesty voiced his appreciation of the support and aid provided by Japan to enable the Kingdom to implement development programs.
The meeting also touched on the latest developments on Jerusalem after the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
His Majesty called for the international community to assume its responsibilities towards the Palestinian cause in order to achieve a just and lasting solution to this key issue, stressing that the issue of Jerusalem should be settled within a comprehensive solution that leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and living in peace and security alongside Israel.
For his part, the president of Japanese House of Councillors Mr. Date stressed that the issue of Jerusalem should be resolved in final status negotiations in accordance with international legitimate resolutions.
On the same day, Mr. Date met separately the president of the Senate H.E. Mr. Faisal Al Fayez and the president of House of Representatives H.E. Mr. Atef Tarawneh and discussed means to boost bilateral relations and recent development in the Middle East.
