Ambassador Kato signs a Grant Contract of US$ 14,923 with Princess Alia Bint Al Hussein Center for Special Education for the improvement of educational equipment for the center

The Government of Japan has decided to extend US$ 14,923 to Princess Alia Bint Al Hussein Center for Special Education and an agreement was signed on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 by H.E. Mr. Shigenobu Kato, the Ambassador of Japan and Mr. Jamal Yousef, Director of the Princess Alia Bint Al Hussein Center for Special Education in Baqa’a camp in the presence of H.R.H. Princess Alia Bint Al-Hussein and officials from Department of Palestinian Affairs of Jordan.

The grant will support the Center supplying with various school furniture and educational equipments in order to assist in upgrade of the Center’s quality in providing further practical training for the students. Through this project, we hope to activate the training for the students and to ensure the center’s income by selling fabrics which students will weave.

This grant is provided within the framework of Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GAGP). Japan has donated US$ 5.8 million for 100 projects during last 13 years for non-governmental organizations, schools, hospitals, and local governments in Jordan.

Princess Alia Bint Al Hussein Center for Special Education was established in 1974 to serve around 130 students whose ages range between 6 and 21 years old, for it is the only center in the Baqa’s camp for the mentally handicapped. It aims at raising the public awareness to the rights of the handicapped and enables them to merge into the Jordanian society.
