Japan Contributes US$15 million to UNRWA for Palestinian Refugees
  1. On 6th March, the Embassy of Japan to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) exchanged Note Verbales on Japan’s contribution of 15 million US dollars through UNRWA for Palestinian refugees.
  2. The financial assistance is mainly intended to improve living conditions of Palestinian refugees in Gaza/West Bank and neighbouring countries. In this package of 15 million dollars, 10 million dollars is allocated for the management of UNRWA’s 17 health centres in Gaza and West Bank in order to improve health services for more than 565,000 Palestinian refugees. Also, 5 million dollars is contributed to humanitarian assistance for 280,000 Palestinians in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon as they face critical conditions due to the Syrian crisis.
  3. Japan recognizes UNRWA as an important partner in support of Palestinian refugees and has so far contributed approximately 635 million US dollars to UNRWA since 2002.
